Dolphin
- Bug 368332 - Click on symlinked folder in Folder View could open original
directory

I see two things that could be done for easier symlink handling in Dolphin and
FolderView:

1. Add a context menu "Open file or folder the symlink is pointing to..."

2. In the "General" tab of a file's or folder's Properties dialog there is a
"Points to:" text field if the file is symlink. There could be a new "Open"
button which takes the user to the file the symlink is pointing to.

3. Add an option to Folder View to open the symlink's target by default as
suggested here: Bug 368332

The USE CASE is the following:

On my desktop I have links to LibreOffice documents. I occasionally use those
or I open the files from their original location. This mixture currently leads
to duplicate entries in the "Recent files" menu in LibreOffice (2 different
entries which point to the same file). This could be easily avoided by having
an option to easily open the symlink's target.

I can imagine that there are cases of symlinks to symlinks in which case I
would suggest to only go one level deep as the regular usage scenario is
probably to have symlinks on the desktop that point to regular files.
