Yes I understand, but in both cases (Kubuntu/Ubuntu) the driver for my printer
is the same. The test page shows the same settings. 
Driver: HL1250. PPD
Description: Brother HL-1230 series
Make and Model: Brother HL-1230 Foomatic/hl1250 (recommended)

So yes, I understand that correcting a bug when you don't have the same
environment is not easy. However, my printer does have a resolution option in
the settings. The difference in print quality is even obvious between Kubuntu
and Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is 300*300 at the beginning I pass it to 600*600 DPI (the parameters are
kept)
On Kubuntu the same scenario except that the parameters are not saved.

So I think this bug is independent of the driver.

If you wish I can set up a desktop sharing on the two different systems so that
you can experiment.
