What happens if you reinstall the bleeding version and run that instead of the
locally compiled:

sudo apt-get remove kstars-bleeding
sudo apt-get install kstars-bleeding
kstars

Does it crash in the same way?

This line crashes, strange:

Q_ASSERT(m_catId >= 0);
