            Bug ID: 391155
Summary: inconsistent selection behaviour after move and copy
           Product: dolphin
           Version: 17.12.2
          Platform: openSUSE RPMs
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: panels: folders
          Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: ottw...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

The situation: Move files from one panel to the other.

>From the logical point of view it is not inconsistent. The rules are clear:
- Keep selected items selected.
- If there are no selected items select the new items.

>From the usability point of view it is inconsistent because now the user has to
analyze the situation.
Are there items selected in the target?
If I want the new items to selected I need to unselect them first.
It is now the user adapting to the software instead of the other way around.

This may even get dangerous when many files are moved. In that case the
selected items may scroll out of view and hence the user might not be aware of
them and apply detrimental operations.

Personally I see no use for keeping items in the target panel selected. Because
it is more likely that I want to apply consecutive operations on the new ones
than do something with the old.

In conclusion: Please always select the new items and only those.
I'm not fully decided on this, but I think this should also apply when files
are moved/copied by other means e.g konsole panel.
