Here's the issue: both the file/folder view as well as the filename field are
useful when they have keyboard focus. If the keyboard focus always stayed in
the filename field, then you couldn't use the arrow keys to navigate the
file/folder view, nor
However, perhaps these functions are of reduced importance in the Save dialog
compared to the open dialog, and it might be worth it. Or perhaps focus should
switch to the filename field as soon as the user starts typing, with this
behavior being user-selectable via the Settings menu. That way you could still
use the arrow keys to navigate the file/folder list until the moment when you
start typing.
