We already look at dumpe2fs (another ext4 util) output to get free space. But the problem is that sometimes it's hard to estimate used space precisely. I should check if resize2fs and dumpe2fs gives the same output, but e.g. I think even with btrfs it's much harder to tell the exact used space, so at best we can try to improve it per file system.
