SUMMARY
After upgrading from Kubuntu 18.04 to 18.10 the desktop fails to properly
launch and I get several notifications that kwin has closed unexpectedly.
System unusable.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Upgrade to Kubuntu 18.10
2. Boot normally
OBSERVED RESULT
Black background. Loading logo and spinning wheel freeze. Terminal, which is
meant to load on launch, opens 5 times. Mouse works. Keyboard works at first
but sometimes stops doing so. Position of windows everywhere. Eventually the
whole desktop tends to freeze. No taskbar. Unusable, unstable system.
On the plus side the internet seems to work, I can launch a terminal with a
keyboard shortcut and from there other programs.
Note: switching from nvidia-driver-390 to nouveau gives me a taskbar.
EXPECTED RESULT
A normal desktop boot.
