Another suggestion to improve the accessibility of the menu (related to Bug
401351)
Suggestion is to have <Alt down and release> to bring up the menu popup, then
<Alt+(first letter)> (or maybe just first letter???) to interact with the menu
normally.
Also Esc should preferably close the menu popup.
