We couldn't fix the bug because we had to wait to be able to make API incompatible changes. Given that the bug you see in KDE4 is the most reported KDE4 bug ever[1], we sure were pressed to find a solution. But it wasn't possible without breaking API, so it had to wait for the KF5 split and KAuth rewrite. You are free to use old versions or distributions.
