I see your point, but:

- infrequent for a given user or among users? I think advance users would
appreciate the option at the cost of having an additional icon, similarly to
the dolphin one.

- doesn't the same argument apply to dolphin?

- rhetorical/philosophical question: what is more important in a linux desktop,
a file browser or a terminal? (I bet not all users would respond the same to
that question)

Alternatives for the cluttering issue:

- make enabling it optional (it can be applied to dolphin as well)
- make the appearing of the icon optional (keeping the shortcut enabled)
