Bug ID: 411865
Summary: kate crashes when clicking print button, caused by an
inconsistency in a printer PPD file
Product: kate
Version: 18.12.3
Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: application
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
The system has installed a network Kyocera TASKalpha 3551ci printer, using a
PPD file provided by the manufacturer. Kate crashes with a segfault when
clicking "print" in the print menu (both when the network printer or print to
file is selected), or when clicking the "Printer properties -> Advanced" tab in
the print menu. The same, in fact, happens with other KDE applications. This
seems to be caused by a typo in the PPD file.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the network printer Kyocera TASKalpha 3551ci, using the PPD file
provided by Kyocera
2. In the printing dialog, select any printer and click "Print", or select
Printer Properties -> Advanced tab
OBSERVED RESULT
Kate crashes with a segfault
EXPECTED RESULT
A typo in the PPD file should preferably not cause a crash of the application
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: openSUSE Leap 15.1 KDE Plasma 5.12.8
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.12.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.55.0
Qt Version: 5.9.7
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The issue can be fixed by simply editing the PPD file removing the
inconsistency. However, the "inconsistent" PPD file worked fine in openSUSE
42.3.
