--- Comment #6 from Tymond <[email protected]> --- Actually it's different from that I described: it looks like system information is written at the top of the log in the window, so it can look like I described but the reason is different and the system information at the top is actually current. My issues with that: - there is no system information written for every session which I guess might be helpful sometimes - it's confusing in my opinion. I would prefer it if it was in two different menu entries with one that only shows the current system information (for convenience for bugs that don't require the full log) and one that shows the full log with system information one per every session (when it's needed or when the user lost their files etc...). More precisely, I'm working on it right now :) We had a discussion with Rebecca and Ivan, Rebecca thinks it would be useful, Ivan is fine with that and thinks that the log should contain system info as well, Wolthera is also fine with what I suggested. (The beginning of the conversation is cut a bit) (I marked important sections with [!] at the beginning) <tiar-ty> ivanyossi|log: in older versions it showed just system information <tiar-ty> ivanyossi|log: in 4.2.8 it shows the log which contains both the system information and some other info <tiar-ty> now boud changed it so first it prints out the system information and then the log, which can contain system info as well if an older Krita was launched... <ivanyossi|log> tiar-ty: the currect settings? <tiar-ty> ivanyossi|log: Krita version, Qt version etc <tiar-ty> in my opinion it should be changed so there are two menu entries: Help -> System infomation, and Help -> Krita log, and log should have both system information and the log as it was done in 4.2.8 and before, because it's useful <tiar-ty> because then (1) if you want a quick access for system info for current Krita, you check in system info <tiar-ty> (2) log contains Krita version so it's easily checked which parts of logs are for which versions <ivanyossi|log> tiar-ty: so system information should only have the system information once? <tiar-ty> ivanyossi|log: yes; only for the current instance of Krita <tiar-ty> I believe so [!] <ivanyossi|log> hmmm, but for asking for help we usually prefer having both always attached <tiar-ty> I mean, boud already made it this way <tiar-ty> ivanyossi|log: yes <tiar-ty> that's another thing <tiar-ty> the log should contain both as it was in 4.2.8 <tiar-ty> ivanyossi|log: right now both branches has it this way that system information is separated from the log and just written in GUI at the top of the log, which makes no sense in my opinion <tiar-ty> I mean, it does make *some* sense, but it would be better in a different way <tiar-ty> and I'm proposing two menu entries, one with just current system info, one with log and system infos written for every session for the last ten sessions [!] <rebecca2525> I'd find that useful [!] <rebecca2525> Like the time I crashed the beta survey with my huge log when only the system info was needed ;) <tiar-ty> rebecca2525: yes [!] <rebecca2525> Or for some bug reports where I know if the log helps or not <tiar-ty> and a lot of times we just need to know Krita and Qt version and that's it <tiar-ty> and OS <tiar-ty> rebecca2525: exactly, that's the point <ivanyossi|log> All I get is text for copy in system info for bug report. <tiar-ty> rebecca2525: do you think having two menu entries would be enough, or should I make one dialog with two tabs, system info, log? I think for users two menu entries might be easier [!] <ivanyossi|log> but i can see the usefulness of having only system information in another option [!] <rebecca2525> Yeah, two menu entries would also be quicker to explain [!] <rebecca2525> tabs are easier to overlook <tiar-ty> easier made as well :) <tiar-ty> I will do that then <tiar-ty> scottyp_win: ^ ? raghukamath Wolthera_laptop , not sure if anyone else would be interested <ivanyossi|log> tiar-ty: :) [!] <Wolthera_laptop> tiar-ty: I'm fine with it :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
