What I do know is I can only recreate it on the machine with a GTX960 using nvidia proprietary drivers (440.59 currently) and not my laptop which uses i915. I tried it with the root account and a new account. Both of those exhibit the same behaviour as my normal user account. Screen resolution is 1280x1024.
