I don't understand how this is thought to be fixed. I upgraded from 16.04 LTS, and the inadvertent tab tearing off is so bad I have moved the tab bar to the top so the mouse usually is not near it. But this is far less productive, because the top is so far from where the typing and cutting and pasting is. If there is a way to disable this, it is not obvious in the menu.
