            Bug ID: 422442
Summary: Suggestions for the user interface
           Product: elisa
           Version: 20.04.1
          Platform: Archlinux Packages
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: matthieu_gall...@yahoo.fr
          Reporter: paclarushtao...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

As stated in https://community.kde.org/Elisa#Open_Design_Questions, you are
still finding the shape of Elisa, and I think that an enthusiast on music
player interfaces (me), can give you some ideas that can hopefully become a
reality.

First of all I will thank you for your work. I love people getting beautiful
yet functional interfaces as a goal. I really hate that a lot of projects make
ugly interfaces with lists and lists of albums, songs, artists... ugh. This is
a music player, not LibreOffice Calc! I will prefer to see my album covers in a
big grid, please-

first of all, the sidebar: it takes space from the screen, so a button to hide
it (or at least contract it to just an icon-only sidebar) is desirable. Here is
a mockup: https://i.imgur.com/pDMQIJM.png
Also, it will be nice to have the option of edit the entries on the sidebar.
Some of us don't care about online radios, but we care about years, for example
;). From an option in the settings dialog to a simple right click with a menu
to check/uncheck them can work.

The search function is neat, but it can be expanded further: what about adding
to the sidebar (or another place) a super search feature, able to search in
album, artist, title, album artist, year, etc. Maybe (stress in the maybe) it
can replace the current search inside every section on the sidebar because it
can search in any field available (maybe even lyrics!)

Final one: artist images. I guess this one is in the TODO for sure, but going
through the artist section and seeing only half circles with smaller circles on
top is really boring. And don't worry about making an API to fetch data from
last.fm or discogs, us music nerds are happy with a simple dialog to load the
image from the fiesystem.

P.S: maaaaybe the option of replacin the blurred cover with the aforementioned
artist image? IDK.

Hailings, and good luck.
