Right now it's possible to be done this way:

1. make a vector shape
2. convert to vector selection: Select -> Convert Shapes to Vector Selection
3. select the brush
4. select the selection tool (any one of them)
5. right-click -> Transform -> Stroke Selection -> Current Brush. Press OK.

The problem:
- too many steps? (no way to stroke just vector shapes, one needs to convert
them to selection first).
- it's not automatic; after a change in vector shapes, one would need to make
it into a selection and apply the stroke again.

The feature request is talking about a much more advanced system, it seems.
