This works fine these days and in fact we will be explicitly shipping a hibrid
theme called "Breeze Twilight" which featured a dark color for Plasma and the
rest of the shell and a light color theme for apps. We have worked hard to sort
out the kinds of problems you describe to make this work properly without text
ever becoming invisible anywhere.
