I answer as I understand it.
All icons are only visible with the Breeze Icon theme. In digiKam Setup, select
the Breeze Icon theme under Miscellaneous-> Appearance, depending on the color
scheme Breeze or Breeze-Dark.
In the people view, the "new" refers to faces that they have not yet given a
name and are unconfirmed, not whether the tag is new.
