There are 2 different issues I think. One is fixed - opening a project with guides marked the project as modified. Other problem is probably Windows specific. 
 is in fact the unicode for a line return. This character should not appear. I just pushed another commit that might fix this, enforcing UTF-8 encoding in markers. Please test if these
