SUMMARY
In the ‘geo-country’ activity, several of the Italian regions and provinces are
outdated or otherwise wrong. Here’s a list of problems that I’ve found (there
may be others):
First, the top-level category ‘Districts of Italy’ lists regions, not
districts. It should be renamed ‘Regions of Italy’:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Italy
And the level two categories ‘Districts of Northern Italy’, ‘Districts of
Central Italy’ and ‘Districts of Southern Italy’ lists provinces and
metropolitan cities, not districtits. It should be renamed to ‘Provinces and
metropolitan cities of ...’ (can perhaps be shortened to just ‘Provinces of
...’ if necessary?).
Province issues:
Verbania should be Verbano-Cusio-Ossola
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Verbano-Cusio-Ossola).
Olbia-Tempio does not exist anymore. It’s now a part of Sassari.
Ogliastra does not exist anymore. *Most of it* is now a part of Nuoro.
Medio Campidano does not exist anymore. It is now a part of Sud Sardegna.
Carbonia-Iglesias does not exist anymore. It is now a part of Sud Sardegna.
Reggio Calabria (as a province) does not exist anymore. Is now replaced by the
Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria.
Bari (as a province) does not exist anymore. It is now replaced by the
Metropolitan City of Bari.
Napoli (as a province, which BTW should be spelled *Naples* in English) does
not exist anymore. It is now replaced by the Metropolitan City of Naples.
Actually, there are *14* old provinces that have now been turned into
‘Metropolitan Cities’. Here’s a list:
