Bug ID: 436234 Summary: the multitude of "random" plasma crashes etc. may in fact be due to a firmware problem Product: systemsettings Version: unspecified Platform: Mageia RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: crash Priority: NOR Component: generic-crash Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: k...@herz-fischler.ca Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. 2. 3. OBSERVED RESULT Over the last few years I and many others have experienced what can only be described as random (and thus unrepeatable) stalls, crashes, loss of cunctionality etx. This has occurred on different distributions. When it first happened (Mageia 6 and 7)I thought that it might be the chips on my new computer, but changing the chips did not help. I thus---not being willing to do away with KDE Plasma---learned to live with these stalls. When my computer went into a complete shutdown and I could not reinstall the distribution (Mageia 8 to be precise) I had it tested. My computer technician reported that even though the hard drive tested correctly they had received a firmware update from Kingston concerning the A400 series (the warning may have applied to other Kingston models too). I suggested that they simply replace the hard drive and so they installed a WD Blue series. The system has been working perfectly. In particular whereas peviously the system monitor did not show any CPU history, it now does. Perhaps you would like to put up a notice about this. EXPECTED RESULT SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
