Bug ID: 438553
Summary: Please make kickoff's category list hideable
Product: plasmashell
Version: 5.22.0
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected], [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
This is about the usability drawback of the new start menu I already bitched
about in Bug #438234, which has been marked as a duplicate of Bug #434904, but
it's about an additional approach of solving this. So I think this bug has it's
raison d'être, at least as a thought-provoking impulse.
The "triangle menu" implementation from Bug #434904 makes accidental category
changing whilst opening the start menu happen less often, but it still happens
(to me).
Still, the category list is where – imho – the favorites should be. I'd still
propose to make the whole thing collapsible, so that it takes much less space,
e. g. by only showing the "Applications" and "Places" icons in a small vertical
icon bar at the left side, along with an arrow icon or such to show it. Or to
hide it completely and let the user choose if it should be shown via a settings
option.
The new menu is imho still a lot less usable than the old one ... this would
bring the "old feel" back for gridlocked carpers like me without removing
functionality.
Would be cool if you added this ;-)
