I am having this same problem, further more I noticed as of 5.7 upgrade to
neon, it causes a kwin crash as well to break compositing. If I untick
"Desktop navigation wraps around", and cause an infinite loop of the desktops,
kwin does not crash.
Same as above to reproduce, but Mouse scroll causes kwin to crash as well.
