Oddly, I wasn't even able to get VLC to work - it just shows the same error as it did in Kubuntu 20.04. That's actually the software I most want to use from smb shares - did you need to install anything extra to get it to work? kio-fuse was installed already by default. Also, looks like this bug report is closed, even though it doesn't actually work in many cases.
