Is it also about, for example, that only ASCII is allowed for input in the Exif tab? I would make the following suggestion, we allow the input of UTF8 since we are already writing UTF8 when syncronizing with XMP. We make it visible when there is UTF8 in the fields but the standard actually requires ASCII, for example with an error icon behind the input field.
