Are you looking at the PO file itself? If so, are the strings you mention marked "fuzzy"? In that case it is alright. If the PO system sees a new or changed msgid, it will look for msgstrs from similar msgids and fill them in. Then a translation will have to check that string, modify it so it matches and then remove the "fuzzy" mark. Only then will the translation find its way into the application.
