Summary: [FR] hidden calendar UX / show selected calendars
                    first
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kalendar
           Version: 22.08.1
          Platform: Flatpak
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
Kalendar allows to un-select Kalendars for display. This is useful, but I still
have some UX flaws.

My assumption is that there are always some calendars that are irrelevant to
me, and that I have many calendars. (Sometimes, especially in
work-environments, there might be calendars shared with me I am not interested
in).

My proposal:
Always show selected calendars first, so that sort respects the state first.
The two places where I'd appreciate this are
1) the dropdown when I create a new event (it's messy if I need to find my
relevant calendars among many others)
2) the sidebar (I'd imagine that with many calendars, displaying the selected
ones on the top would be useful)

See more considerations below.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add many calendars
2. uncheck some
3. create a new event and try to find the ones that are relevant for you

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Debian 11 via flatpak

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Considered alternatives:

Removing the calendars in the upstream calendar source would be the desired
workflow, but this is often not possible, especially as the control over the
calendar server might not be in the hand of the user (e.g. in
work-environments). In my case, some calendars are group shares I cannot simply
leave without loosing access to other calendars, too.
So I think that improving the UX on the user's device is the way to go.

Another interesting option could be to add another hidden state for the
calendars that can be enabled in the settings, so they disappear from the
sidebar and dropdown. This could be a superior option to my proposal above,
because it doesn't break workflows where users quickly need to toggle between
calendars and get confused when they get sorted below the others.

Thank you for the work on kalendar and considering my proposal.
