Bug ID: 461255
Summary: Allow using light wallpaper with dark theme (or vice
versa)
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version: 5.26.2
Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: Image Wallpaper
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected], [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY
It looks like Plasma 5.26 has introduced new "dark" variants of wallpapers
(including existing wallpapers that didn't previously have dark variants.) The
wallpaper chooser shows a horizontally split preview of the light and dark
wallpaper (with no way to view a full preview of either version.) However, I
don't see an option to force using a specific version of the wallpaper.
The reason I'd like to use the original/light wallpapers is that the dark
wallpapers are way too dark and do not provide any contrast against windows and
panels while using the dark theme. I imagine the dark wallpapers would work
better with the light theme, but that isn't possible either.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right-click the desktop -> Configure Desktop and Wallpaper...
2. Select any wallpaper with a light and dark version available
3. Apply
OBSERVED RESULT
The dark wallpaper is applied, with no option in the settings to use the light
version instead.
EXPECTED RESULT
There should be an option (e.g. a dropdown defaulting to "Automatic") to force
using the light or dark variant of a wallpaper.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: 6.0.5
KDE Plasma: 5.26.2
KDE Frameworks: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6
