            Bug ID: 463378
Summary: Applied Tags Don't Get Written To File?
    Classification: Applications
           Product: digikam
           Version: 8.0.0
          Platform: Other
                OS: Microsoft Windows
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Tags-Keywords
          Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: metal...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Sometimes when I remove tags from a given file, they don't actually seem to get
updated. I uncheck the tag, click Apply, and the file modification date does
get updated (showing that digiKam actually did "touch" the file). However, if I
diff the file against a backup, no binary changes have taken place, and if I
"Reread Metadata From File", digiKam reveals that the tag was actually never
removed from the file.

Easiest to illustrate with a screencast:
https://jiij.cc/snaps/2022-12-22_21.50.36.mp4

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Settings->Configure digiKam->Metadata->Behavior->Check all the checkboxes
under "Write This Information to the Metadata" (all other settings on that
dialog are as default).
2. Navigate to a photo that has a tag. Note its modification date.
3. Make a backup copy of that photo somewhere
4. On the right of digiKam, go to Captions->Tags
5. Untick the tag, then click "Apply" at the bottom
6. Note that the file modification date has been updated, as expected.
7. Binary diff the photo against its backup. They are identical - the tag was
not actually removed.
8. Item->Reread Metadata From File. The tag now reappears in the digiKam UI.
