SUMMARY
After the welcome screen update for KWrite my first question was how to get rid
of it since I only use it as notepad for quick edits and the welcome screen is
more interaction than I need and actually want.
It took some time and this reddit post to know how to change it:

I have no idea how this setting is labled in english, but at the bottom of the
welcome screen you can turn it off with a simple toggle. The setting is labled
as "In neuem Fenster anzeigen" (en: Show in new Window).
I had no idea what that setting would change so I left it. I wouldn't expect
this to toggle the welcome screen since the text doesn't directly link the
toggle with the welcome screen in my opinion.
There could be a small explanation below the toggle that tells you what this
toggle does and maybe it should be renamed to something like "Show Welcome
Screen". (Again: No idea how this is labled in english) The explanation could
be: Start with this Welcome Screen instead of a new document. There could also
be a note that it can be changed in the settings of KWrite later on.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open KWrite with "Show welcome view for new window=true"
