Was the image open in other programs (Explorer) or part of a Windows network share? Download and start DebugView from Microsoft. Enable internal debugging in the digiKam Settings under Miscellaneous-> System and restart digiKam. Try deleting the tag and posting the debug output from the DebugView window.
