I'm likewise very unhappy to see this gone (running X11). I don't believe that
that script would do the right thing for fixed width text oriented apps such as
emacs or xterm, where geometry in pixels is not relevant, it's width in
characters that matter.
I frequently want windows to be of a specific width (in characters) so that e.
g. if I'm creating text output I can easily see whether the output will
overflow 80 or 132 columns.
