The compose post dialog must not hide the feed area so that the writer can see
what they are replying to.
I'm looking for an application targeted at desktop users, so my preference is
for a separate, non-modal dialog to open. This would allow the user to
continue browsing feeds while writing, just as the official Mastodon web client
does.
