Doing a manual uninstall of 7.3.0, then install of 8.1.0, resulted in a well
working experience.

Regarding what happened originally, I tried to do in-app update but that was
unsuccessful due to a download error (I think it was a "not found" error?). I
then decided to download the 8.1.0 installer and run it. If I was supposed to
run the 7.3.0 uninstaller first, I will say that was not made clear. Neither
the 8.1.0 installer, nor any of the digiKam pages I visited to obtain it
(/download/, /download/binary/) mention needing to do that. So if that is case,
then perhaps those things could be updated to help prevent this in the future.

Thanks for the help!
