Well, adding a configuration option for this might not be that easy either.
While #424723 might seem quite fundamental, it is not necessarily more
difficult to fix that one first, and then not needing a configuration option to
resolve this bug here.

We also try to follow a guideline of not adding off-by-default settings if
possible
(https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Design/Frequently_Discussed_Topics#New_off-by-default_features).
Directly acting on contents of a folder might be nice, but I wouldn't
necessarily call it important enough to add an off-by-default setting for this.

It does carry less responsibility, but the consequence is that there is more
responsibility for everyone working on the code later to keep every setting
working. There is also a burden for user experience because more possibilities
need to be kept in mind while designing.

At least I think that the expected behaviour is quite clear. But that's
something to be discussed there or in development channels.

You are welcome! Sorry that this does indeed need someone putting some work
into this. It is not something that can quickly be resolved without major
drawbacks as far as I can tell.

Also be aware that this is just my opinion. Others might judge this differently
and I try not to block other contributors trying to solve issues.
