Bug ID: 488109
Summary: Suggestion for Kickoff and other application menus:
search rankings
Classification: Plasma
Product: kdeplasma-addons
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: Application Dashboard
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
Implement a simple numeric ranking system tied to .desktop entries in the
application menu that allows search results to be ranked arbitrarily.
DESIRED STEPS
1. Meta key to open application menu
2. Search term returns multiple items
3. Items with a higher search priority sorted above others arbitrarily
4. Unranked items sort by default
Example: a search for Music might return Amarok, Elisa, and Strawberry.
Alphabetical ranking would put Amarok on top. Adding a “Search Priority = 1” to
Elisa (over the default of 0) would return Elisa first, followed by Amarok and
then Strawberry.
This is a failing of most search systems, where the user knows what apps they
want to run but they waste keystrokes making their search more specific than it
could be.
