Bug ID: 490158
Summary: Geolocation additions from XMP files in RAW
Classification: Applications
Product: digikam
Version: 8.3.0
Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Geolocation-Workflow
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
Hi,
Many RAW photos geocoded from external software, and not when taken by photo
equipment, have GPS coordinates in an XML file.
In addition, this XML file can be polluted by adjustment or cropping parameters
proprietary to software, Lightroom or other.
In photo archiving the systematic presence of XML significantly reduces the
capacity of hard drives and could be deleted but the geocoding is lost if RAW
is taken out of Digikam

Importing into Digikam supports these coordinates in your database when they
exist.
Writing GPS data to the RAW is possible via:
- "Item" > "Edit Geolocation" but requests a deletion then copies the
coordinates and altitudes to write its data in the RAW
- "Item > "Write Metadata to File" after selecting all RAW.
Could you not offer in the "Edotor Geolocation" screen or in the "Item" menu a
"Write Geolocation" from the XMP or information from the database in the RAW
list ?
Thank you in advance for your arbitration.
Best regard
