SUMMARY
In recent kernels (some time in 2023) the starting index value for the GPU
changed from 0 to 1, i suspect this is the cause of this issue
$ ls /sys/class/drm/
card1 card1-DP-1 card1-DP-2 card1-DP-3 card1-DVI-D-1 card1-HDMI-A-1
renderD128 version
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use modern linux kernel
2. Do not use nvidia gpu driver (assumed) [Note i am using a old AMD GPU]
3. add GPU monitor
OBSERVED RESULT
Default labeling names the GPU is GPU 2 when there is only 1 GPU in the system
EXPECTED RESULT
GPU is labeled as eg 'GPU 1 Temperature' or 'GPU Temperature', not 'GPU 2
Temperature'
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 24.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.13
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-45-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 580 Series
Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
Product Name: MS-7B79
System Version: 2.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Note that after upgrading Kubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, the sensor is no longer found
and needed to be re configured in the GPU as it was no longer found at the old
path, maybe there should have been a setting migration for this or a kernel
version check? Not sure that would be worth making at this point...
