Bug ID: 496962
Summary: make the "donate to KDE" Plasma notification
searchable
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version: 6.2.4
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Donation notification
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY
If one dismisses the Plasma notificatin inviting you to donate to KDE e.V., one
can't find it again.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Plasma for a while, maybe update to new version
2. Eventually when starting Plasma, a notification appears inviting you to
donate to KDE.
3. Dismiss it, because you're in a hurry to do something else.
4. Try to find the donation prompt a few days later.
OBSERVED RESULT
I can't find it! The Notifications widget shows "No unread notifications" and I
don't know if there's a way to show old notifications. I searched for donate in
the Application Launcher (start menu), the Alt+F2 widget (Kicker?), and System
Settings. I also searched my filesystem for 'kde.*donat' and found only
/usr/lib64/qt6/plugins/kf6/kded/donationmessage.so, and searched a bit for
lxr.kde.org and couldn't find what put up the notification.
I spend most of my time in Firefox, Thunderbird, and Konsole. Eventually I
tried the latter's hamburger menu and found Help > $ Donate. Maybe if I used a
KDE application that has menu search I would have quickly found "Donate".
EXPECTED RESULT
Make it easy for users to later donate if they dismiss the donate
notification/prompt!
If there were a "Donate" panel in System Settings then I think it would be
searchable from the start menu and Kicker. This panel would also be a place for
some of the improvements suggested in bug 492379
