You can force the current clang format to keep the multi-line if as follows:
if (roles.isEmpty() // comment
|| roles.contains(Notifications::UpdatedRole)
|| roles.contains(Notifications::ExpiredRole)
The comment prevents clang to join the lines. I understand it's not what you
want, though.
