Dear community, we concluded this year SoK a few weeks ago and admins are looking ways/ideas to improve it whether it is: * for contributors (how to ease the inclusion, how to increase our chances to have them stay after and become long term contributors); * for mentors (how to help people to be new mentors helped by long term mentors to share the mentoring...); * for admins (how to ensure communication is well received by all mentors/contributors for example, make sure each contributor blogs enough their progress...).
If you have any idea, please write them on the notes Joseph has been taking in the wiki ( https://community.kde.org/SoK/Administer_the_SoK#Improvement_ideas%2Fquestions) or let's discuss here! Cheers, Johnny ---------- Forwarded message --------- De : Joseph P. De Veaugh-Geiss <[email protected]> Date: mer. 12 avr. 2023 à 18:26 Subject: SoK | Improvement ideas To: <[email protected]> Hello past and present mentors as well as potential future mentors! Johnny and I met today to discuss internal communication and community building at KDE and for activities like SoK and GSoC. I have started taking some notes at the wiki: https://community.kde.org/SoK/Administer_the_SoK#Improvement_ideas%2Fquestions Please check it out and add any ideas you think are missing. Most importantly: What are your thoughts? As examples: - Could SoK be positioned as a possible first step in contributor development, something like: Step 1 SoK mentee -> Step 2 submit GSoC application -> Step 3 mentor an SoK project? - Would you be willing to contact or interview former SoK mentees to collect materials for attracting potential new contributors? - What about having a "mentor-the-mentors" workshop before announcing SoK? This could be an opportunity to share strategies and brainstorm ideas for the coming year. It could help clarify expectations and align mentors across projects. It could also be a place to decide who does what and when (e.g., issuing the certificates, organizing swag, writing the final summary post). More is at the above link. As we wrap up SoK23, it would be great to have your thoughts on how to improve SoK for the future! Cheers, Joseph -- Joseph P.
