Exactly. And we know there *are* people who do not use Telegram but do
use Matrix. And even if they were fewer, it would be wrong to keep them
off a KDE community because they make a choice that aligns better with
KDE's principles, like punishing them for doing the right thing in a
way.

The main problem with that is forcing people to choose between using
Telegram or not being part of the discussions
Telegram being non-free is one of the reasons we chose Matrix alongside
IRC as the place for our community discussions
