Nope. There is no way to do it differently in an efficient way. It's basically the same every distribution does for packages, just that this is an index of applications, instead of packages. Also note that the legal issues are hypothetical at time, but companies insist to play safe on that (well, and that additional bit of legal security doesn't hurt). Cheers, Matthias
