Hello,

I’m Patrick Carlson - a PhD candidate at Iowa State University. As part of
my research, I have created a website called Jamii that helps developers
better understand source code and communication in open source
communities. I've run analysis on the kde-baseapps repository.

The website has 3 features:

1. “Impactful commits” shows you code commits that have had a substantial
impact on the technical structure of the source code.

2. “Developer knowledge” lets you select a source code file and identify
who has expertise in that file or section of the file.

3. “Communication suggestions” provides suggestions about who you (or
others) could be increasing communication with on the mailing list based on
shared source code commits.

I’ve been working on Jamii for a while, and am now wanting feedback from
the community.

First, check out the website:

Then, take a brief survey about your experience:

I’m also conducting 15 minute interviews with people via online chat. Once
you’ve checked out the website, email me to setup an interview (
[email protected]).

Know anyone else who may be interested? Feel free to share the links.

Questions? Email me at [email protected]

Thank you,

Patrick Carlson
