Hi Nanduni, nice to meet you! I am very happy to see you're interested in this project. Lets' see if I can explain it better: First, like Riccardo said, I would suggest you to get comfortable with wikitolearn website (if you're not already). Then I would suggest you to look at how does mediawiki works. In particular, you should look on the extensions about the editor. Currently WikiToLearn has a simple text editor: it allows you to write content and has some snippets buttons. Our plan is to make it better for people that wants to write content in WTL (the editors).
If you're asking why we need that, the motivation is that we want people to share knowledge, writing collaborative textbooks, in the most easy and efficient way. 100% of the editors write WikiToLearn pages directly using the web editor. It is easy to use but not so efficient for speed writing. You can see that is the same of wikipedia and mediawiki one; but they also have a new more powerful editor called VisualEditor that we currently don't have but we plain to support. So, how can I improve the editor? This is the main point of the GSoc task. To understand what needs to be improved, it should be understood what editors would like to see in an editor and what can speed them up. Once it is clear what features are really important to improve the usability and efficiency of the editors, then VisualEditor should be hacked (I see, reading the documentation, that it can be done) or a new editor should be written. Remember it's up to you to propose the main idea. We can continue the conversation on mail using the wikitolearn-tech group or the WikiToLearn GSoc telegram group. Let me know :) Bye! > > I found several interesting projects in KDE Community Wiki that matches with > my interests. Hence I would like to take part in a WikitoLearn project.
