Yes. The check-messages script is just checking stuff and suggesting fixes; 
it's not very sophisticated. If you disregard the warning, build and stuff 
works, wonderful. I forget completely where or why GNU msgfmt was invoked; I 
suppose documenting the need for each tool check in the script would have been 
useful.
