It turns out to be stupid simple to install mercurial from source, to the point of: wget http://www.selenic.com/mercurial-stable-snapshot.tar.gz gtar xzf mercurial-stable-snapshot.tar.gz # Weird, but you want to end up in the right directory cd mercurial-*/tests/.. make install-home The only issue is the cbe's env.sh kills my PATH and PYTHONPATH, but that is easily worked around. I have been reading more documentation (Fedor, don't laugh) and pkgtool actually does a lot more than I thought, which leads to all kinds of simplifications in the build system. In the kde4-specs-dev repo you'll find that things build smoother and easier now. [ade]
