Burkhard L?ck identified a mediawiki extension - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/DocBook_XML_export - and I've put in a request to sysadmins to have this installed (bug #205912). As you know, sysadmins are always overworked, so if anyone feel they can help with this, please add to the bug report and/or contact danimo.
