That was fixed for Plasma 5.3 this summer. ;)
- the 'KDE Docs Team' link did not work. The application that it
attempts to start is /opt/thunderbird /thunderbird which does not exist
on my Kubuntu 14.04. To send this email I needed to create a link to
thunderbird there.
It is about how an email client is configured in your system. Please
choose your default handler for "mailto:"; links in System Settings ->
Default Applications (you can press Alt+F2 then enter something like
"default" to see the corresponding link at the top of the list).
