Same here FWIW. I'm not sure the optimisations alone will reduce by a great 
deal.

Yes, that's the important part to not sacrifice. We definitely need the 
asserts active on the CI. Otherwise they'd effectively be active only on 
developers environments this definitely wouldn't be enough.
